Have you been wanting to knit yourself a hat, but you don’t know where to start? Or maybe it just seems too complicated, or too time-consuming. Well…I’m here to save the day! OK, not really save the day…but I’m here to show you just how easy knitting a hat can be! In fact, it’s so easy that my 2 oldest daughters (ages 7 and 9) have both knit their own hats now! For this knit hat I will be using a knitting loom, and this knitting loom is the KEY to everything. It makes knitting a hat SO easy, and SO fast, and the best part is that you don’t need any knitting experience at all. Can I get a hallelujah?! Make sure you check out the short list of supplies below!
Supplies:
- knitting loom set – this is the set I used in the video, or you can get a similar set here on Amazon.
- yarn – this is the exact yarn I used.
- pom poms (optional)

See! So easy, right?! Below I’ll share the sizing guide like I discussed in the video:
SIZING
- American Girl dolls/preemies/newborns – XS loom (length 4″ for dolls, 4-5″ preemies, 5-6.5″ newborns)
- babies – 1-year-olds – Small loom (length 7″)
- toddlers/teens/women/lean men – Medium loom (length 7″ toddlers, 8″ tweens/teens, women/lean men 8-9″)
- larger adults – Large loom (length 9-10″)
*NOTE* – these are just estimations. Sizing will depend on the size of your head, and how long/slouchy you want the hat to be.
